As a responsible and educated breeder, it is my duty to let people know that a yorkie might not be the right dog for you, esp if you have children in the home. Yorkies are a very different breed. They are extremely squirmy and very small. They will leap out of your arms with no warning what so ever. Even adults have been known to drop them, after being warned of the dangers. They will jump off of high places. They are fearless. They will attack another dog 50 times their size. Yorkies can easily be stepped on, shut in doorways, recliner chairs, sat on, and the list goes on and on. Even the most gentle, well informed, loving child, can very easily kill or maim a yorkie w/o even trying. I highly suggest, that if you have small children in the home, you think about having another breed. If you do choose to have a yorkie and you have young children, please educate your children and teach them to respect the rules.
Yorkies, like any breed, have their plusses and minuses. Most people who have a yorkie, say "they are just like potato chips, no one can have just one..." They are wonderful, darling, loyal little pets. They have alot of energy, love to play, but also will sit in your lap at night to be stroked by you and loved. They don't shed, or shed very little. They do require grooming, teeth cleanings and have sensitive tummies. For me, they are the best! But I do encourage folks to please educate yourself when choosing any breed.
